Marytale: Privacy Policy
Thank you for using the Marytale app! Protecting the privacy of our users, especially children, is our top priority. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we safeguard your privacy.
1. Introduction
Marytale (“we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy and complies with global privacy laws such as the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the UK GDPR. This Privacy Policy describes our practices regarding the collection, use, and sharing of information when you use our app (“App”). By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to this Privacy Policy. If you have any questions, you can contact us at support@pixagen.io.
2. Data We Collect
We do not collect any personal information that could directly identify you or your child (e.g., name, email address, phone number, physical address). Instead, we generate a random anonymous identifier (UUID) when you first launch the app.
This UUID is used to enable core app features, such as:
- Tracking reading progress in the "Profile" section.
- Awarding in-app achievements (badges).
- Improving app functionality and user experience.
The UUID is stored in our Firebase database to ensure app functionality. However, the UUID cannot be linked to any personal information and does not allow us to identify a specific user or device. The data remains anonymous at all times.
We do not share the collected data with third parties for commercial purposes, and we do not collect any device identifiers, such as IDFA (Identifier for Advertisers).
3. Use of Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party services to ensure the App’s functionality and stability while maintaining compliance with privacy regulations. These services may process limited non-personal data to support the app’s core features.
- Firebase: We use Firebase for data storage, analytics, and crash reporting. Firebase stores randomly generated anonymous identifiers (UUID) and usage statistics, such as the number of books read and reading progress. These data points are used to improve the app’s performance and user experience. Firebase does not collect device identifiers (such as IDFA) or any personal information that could directly identify users. The data stored in Firebase is securely encrypted and cannot be used to identify a specific user or device. You can read Firebase's privacy policy here: Firebase Privacy Policy.
- Adapty: We use Adapty for managing in-app subscriptions. Adapty processes limited information related to subscription purchases, such as anonymized user activity data (e.g., subscription status, refund requests). This information is used solely to manage your subscription and ensure compliance with Apple’s App Store policies. You can read Adapty's privacy policy here: Adapty Privacy Policy.
Both Firebase and Adapty comply with COPPA, GDPR, and other applicable regulations. While we rely on their stated compliance, we disclaim liability for their independent actions. Users are encouraged to review their privacy policies for further details.
We do not use any third-party services for advertising or behavioral tracking. No personal data collected by our app is shared with advertisers or used for targeted advertising.
4. Child Safety
Marytale is designed for children and complies with all applicable laws for protecting children’s privacy. Key measures include:
- Parental Gates: To prevent accidental purchases or unauthorized access to settings, we use a verification system (e.g., solving a simple math problem).
- No targeted advertising: The App does not contain any behaviorally-targeted ads.
- Minimized data collection: No identifiable information about children is collected or stored.
5. Parental Choices and Controls
Marytale respects parental rights and provides parents with the ability to manage their child’s experience within the app. However, since we do not collect any personal information that could directly identify a user, certain requests may not be feasible to fulfill. Here’s how parents can manage data related to app usage:
- Stop data collection: To stop any further anonymous data collection, parents can simply uninstall the app from the device. Once the app is uninstalled, no further data will be generated or collected.
- Manage notification settings: Parents can enable or disable notifications directly in the settings menu of their device. This allows full control over app-related notifications at any time.
Since the data we collect is completely anonymous and cannot be linked to any specific user or device, we are unable to process requests to access, correct, or delete specific usage data.
For any additional questions or concerns, please contact us at support@pixagen.io.
6. Retention of Data
We retain anonymous usage data for as long as it is necessary to provide app functionality and improve user experience. If you request deletion of data, we will ensure it is promptly removed from our systems.
7. Transfer of Data
Marytale operates globally, and data may be processed outside of your country of residence. The data we process is stored in secure servers provided by Firebase (Google), which may be located in the United States, the European Union, or other regions where Firebase operates.
We take all necessary steps to ensure that data transfers comply with applicable laws and that adequate protections are in place to safeguard your information. This includes relying on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or other lawful mechanisms for data transfers to countries that may not have the same level of data protection as your home country.
8. Notifications
We send notifications only for app-related updates, such as new book releases and special in-app events. These notifications are designed to enhance your experience with the app and do not contain any advertising or commercial content.
Notifications are activated only with your explicit consent when you first launch the app. You can manage or disable notifications at any time through your device’s settings.
We encourage parents to manage notification settings to ensure a safe and appropriate experience for children.
9. Your Privacy Rights
We comply with all applicable laws and regulations regarding user privacy, including GDPR, UK GDPR, and CPA/CPRA.
Since we do not collect any personal information that could directly identify you or your child, certain privacy rights, such as Right of Access, Right to Rectification, and Right to Erasure, do not apply to our app.
All data we collect is completely anonymous and cannot be linked to any specific individual or device. Therefore, we are unable to fulfill requests to access, correct, or delete specific data associated with a particular user.
If you wish to stop using our app and ensure that no further anonymous data is generated, you can uninstall the app from your device. This will stop all data collection and usage tracking within the app.
10. Additional Information for Website Users
If you access our website, we may collect limited information through cookies for navigation and functionality purposes. You can manage or disable cookies in your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may impact the functionality of certain features on the website.
11. Limitation of Liability
We strive to provide the best possible experience for our users by implementing robust security measures and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. While we take reasonable steps to protect your data and ensure the functionality of the App, it is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either expressed or implied. We cannot guarantee absolute security and disclaim liability for any unauthorized access, breaches, or technical issues caused by factors beyond our control.
This limitation of liability applies to the extent permitted by applicable law. For any concerns or questions, we encourage users to contact us, and we will make every effort to address them promptly.
